To work as a programmer in Poland, a Ukrainian citizen needs a contract with a Polish employer and a legal basis: the simplified procedure for citizens of Ukraine, temporary protection or a work permit obtained by the employer. On what basis a Ukrainian can work in Poland
- Simplified procedure for citizens of Ukraine. Since 2022 Poland has had separate rules for employing Ukrainian citizens, and they have been changed several times. Which notifications the employer files and when is checked on the official employment portal praca.gov.pl as of the hiring date.
- Temporary protection. Under EU Directive 2001/55/EC (Article 12), holders may work as employees.
- Work permit. The employer obtains the permit, then you receive a work visa or a temporary residence and work permit. The rules for foreigners' stay are published by the Office for Foreigners (UDSC).
The Council of the EU extended temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens until 4 March 2028 (Government of Ukraine announcement). New applicants receive it subject to their military service obligations to Ukraine; people who already have protection are not affected by this condition.
Official employment gives you a contract with the employer, medical care and insurance. Undeclared work means a fine for the employer and deportation with an entry ban for the worker, so we lead candidates only to official hiring.
